Perhaps the best way to start out this page, is by stating what didn't work for me.

Drugs: I was prescribed a drug called Valium and in severe cases Librium for anxieties and anxiety attacks for 14 years, but this just caused addition and a crutch, and never dealt with the cause. Also keep in mind too that back in the early seventies, many doctors did not have much insight for the psychological based anxiety, nor how to treat it other then with primarily drugs like Valium, Librium, anti depressants, and so forth.

Also, the side effects to some of these anti depressants have equal to or greater side effects than the anxieties attacks themselves, even the possibility of death for a lot of them.

Things I found that paved the way to deal with and over come anxieties and agoraphobia. Some of them are:

First and foremost I would say is, and probably the most important of all, was in the acknowledgment of what I was experiencing, feeling, and going through, that I wasn't going crazy or out of my mind, and in spite of my family and others who thought I was making it up which to say the least, was debilitating.

I had a Doctor put my on a special diet, vitamin regimen along with amino acids for chelating (cleansing the body of toxic chemicals created by the "fight or flight" response). This was to replace the vitamins drained by the attacks, and the chelation was to remove the damaging chemicals put into the blood stream every time I experienced the stress response/anxiety.

Professional conventional cognitive therapy, which was almost useless, didn't help much at all. However, the training classes in such areas as assertiveness training, parenting, anger management, and sexual orientation did.
I read books like “More Help For Nerves” by Karen Weeks which gave me some insight as to how the body is fatigue by the stress response/anxiety attach, “Unlimited Power” by Anthony Robbins which helped understanding how thought creates emotions as well as understanding how our values, beliefs, and rules effect us, books by Dr. Wayne Dyer "Pulling your own Strings" and "Erroneous-Zones" which gave me even more insight, and many many more.
Home study courses like “Attacking Anxiety” by Lucida Basset and put out by Midwest Research Company.

Spiritual food (religious reinforcement) was also a big help while going through the process of recovering (not only in dealing with, but recovering as well).

Nature herbs and teas for relaxations as well as exercise and relaxation/meditative tapes.
There were many more, but these are a few that worked for me, but the main thing that made all of these collectively work, is the effort I put into getting over it. Most professionals talk about dealing with it, I wanted get over it, and I did. And so can you.
